Electric Chair Animation

These are some frames from a crude little animation I did for the Halloween Party at Cal Arts. For some reason I can't figure out how to put them in any order. The piece is just a quick cycle of a dude getting some capital punishment. There are some more effects to be added in After Effects, but here are just the drawings with one colored frame.

More copies

Just some copy exercises of Mickey Mouse.

Daffy Keys

This is a scene I've actually animated. Maybe eventually I'll put the test up, but here's the keys for now. It's definitely out of character for Daffy Duck, but I just wanted to do a subtle, emotional scene.

Original poses

After copying model sheets and stills from various cartoons, I've decided to see if any of my practice so far has paid off. Here I've attempted some original poses of Bugs and Jerry. I was curious who would get the best of the other in a Bugs versus Jerry short. I a bigger fan of Bugs, but it would probably have to be Jerry, simply because he's smaller. I am reminded of "Falling Hare," a short featuring one of the rare instances when Bugs gets his ass handed to him (by a little gremlin dude!).
I had to draw Jerry large, just to get the nuances of his pose, and then shrink him in photoshop for the A panel. The B panel was fun. I'm wondering if I should have pushed Bugs' pose even further, though. Anyway, I liked the idea of a subtle, calm and tender moment, followed by a dynamic, violent, and loud moment.

New Deer Hunt

This piece is a redo of an oil painting I did years ago. I'm showing the original inked drawing and the finish. I've always loved the hunting theme. The painting was inspired by Rubens's incredible takes on the subject.

Oil studies

a few studies from life. a skull and a pregnant woman, an apt juxtaposition to be sure.

Delacroix

Eugene Delacroix is one of my all time favorite painters. I've always thought that the woman in the painting, which I am so humbly aping above, is one of the most beautiful in art history. I've given her a rude, yet winsome treatment in my homage.

What is Man?

A "teetering bulb of dread and dream", or a "certain kind of gooey lump encased in a hard protective shell mounted atop a mobile pedestal that roams the world on a pair of slightly fuzzy, jointed stilts."

What is Man?

Last class time, the eccentric, enigmatic, esoteric, entertaining, effervescent, ephemeral, and certainly entitled, Sande Cohen reassured us all, "Nature made us, and threw away the key."

to be continued...
